The short film I Want Your Love is a great story that doesn't feature any extraneous backstory. We are simply shown what is important in the story, the struggle of dealing with being back in your hometown. The short film succeeds in being a character driven story, but that's not the only reason it's so good. Both actors and director Travis Mathews have great chemistry together.
The I Want Your Love short film premiered at the Silicon Valley Film Festival on February 16, 2010. The film was later released on iTunes, Amazon and Netflix for the occasion of the film’s second anniversary. In 2012, the film was made into a feature-length film with the same title and released on DVD. Both the short and the feature film are available for streaming on Vimeo.
Based on a true story, the 2012 feature-length film follows Jesse and his friends from the City by the Bay to his hometown, where he attempts to reconcile his current relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Liz, who he had left behind many years ago. In the film, Jesse and Liz become closer and their relationship is tested as Jesse is forced to deal with his own sexuality.
I Want Your Love stars Jesse Metzger, Misha Collins, Jessica McNamee, and Tara Buck. Misha Collins also directed the film and wrote the screenplay. The cast was also joined by actors including Todrick Hall, Matt Roth, and John Forbes-Mitchell.
At the time the short film was released, I Want Your Love was the first feature-length film directed by a queer artist. It follows Jesse and his friends from the City by the Bay, including his childhood friend, Phil (played by Misha Collins), to his hometown where Phil meets Jesse’s ex-girlfriend, Liz (Jessica McNamee).
