Class Preparation

Device and Software

Before your first lesson, make sure you have the following device and software ready:

  • Download the VooV Tencent Cloud Meeting here.

  • ATTENTION: you should not take classes on smartphones!

In order to take online classes on PC, a webcam is required. It is also highly recommended that you use a headset with a microphone for audio quality. Taking classes on an iPad provides sufficient camera quality. Earphones are also recommended for iPad or tablet use.

Lesson Preview

Each lesson comes with online flashcards to help students learn, practice and test themselves on the new words. You will be emailed these Flashcards. Before each lesson, students can expose themselves to new vocabulary.

You will also be emailed a copy of the upcoming lesson. It is highly recommended that the students study for the lesson before class. That way, time spent with the teacher can be best spent on pronunciation and extension, not on memorization.

Your lessons also come with a subscription to a website called "iXL." This learning website helps reinforce grammar and phonics concepts. You'll be provided with a unique password to login to your account.

Teacher Feedback

Students receive feedback from their teachers after each lesson. This feedback helps students understand their learning progress and areas of improvement, so they can practice after class accordingly. You will be emailed the feedback.

Safety Rules

1. Please always be kind and friendly.

Firefly Street is a place for kindness, communication, and progress. Please rethink what you send and how it could make others feel. We hope that you help us keep our classes kind, friendly, and engaging.

2. Please observe basic social etiquette.

In order to keep our classes creative and friendly, students should observe basic social etiquette in class, dress appropriately, and be kind towards teachers or other students.

3. Have rules about where your child can videoconference.

To protect your child's safety, set rules in your home about video conferencing, including requiring that your child video conferences in a shared space in the home, such as the living room or kitchen, so you can monitor their online interactions.
